Privacy policy
This privacy policy explains how we use the personal data that we collect from you when you use this website or contact us. Our name and contact details are at the end of this page.
What data do we collect?
- Your name, phone number and email address.
- Your message, and the best time to call you, if you give one.
- If you ask us to act for you: the details of your property, your insurance policy and your claim.
- When you visit this website: your internet address and basic technical details. Our hosting and security services (Cloudflare) process them to deliver and protect the website.
How do we collect your data?
You give us the data yourself. We collect data when you:
- send the message form on our contact page;
- phone us, email us or message us on WhatsApp;
- ask us to act for you on a claim.
To limit spam, the message form also keeps a coded (hashed) version of your internet address, and the time of your message. It counts for 24 hours. We delete it the next time the form is used after that. We use it only to count how many messages come from one address.
How will we use your data?
We use your data to:
- answer your enquiry;
- handle your insurance claim, if you ask us to act for you;
- keep records, and defend or bring legal claims.
You do not have to give us your data. But without your contact details we cannot answer you, and without the details of your claim we cannot act for you.
The message form can use Google reCAPTCHA to stop automated spam. It loads only if you accept cookies and then use the form. Google then receives your internet address and information about your browser and how you use the page, and it can set a cookie. Google’s privacy policy and terms apply. If you reject cookies, reCAPTCHA does not load and the form still works.
We do not sell your data. For the legal basis of each use, and for who can receive your data, see our GDPR statement.
How do we store your data?
The message form sends your details by email to Patrick Ginnelly & Co. The website also keeps a safety copy of each message on its server, so that a mail fault cannot lose your message. We delete a copy 90 days after the message. The website clears old copies when the next message arrives, so a copy can stay a little longer if no new message comes.
We send the email through Amazon Web Services (the Amazon Simple Email Service, in its Ireland region).
We keep your data for the periods below.
- Enquiries that do not become a claim: we delete them 12 months after our last contact with you.
- Claim files: we keep them for 6 years after the claim is closed. Then we delete or destroy them.
Marketing
We do not send marketing messages. We contact you only about your enquiry or your claim.
What are your data protection rights?
You have these rights:
- The right to access. You can ask us for a copy of your personal data.
- The right to rectification. You can ask us to correct data that is wrong, or to complete data that is not complete.
- The right to erasure. You can ask us to delete your personal data, in some conditions.
- The right to restrict processing. You can ask us to limit how we use your data, in some conditions.
- The right to object to processing. You can object to our use of your data, in some conditions.
- The right to data portability. You can ask us to send your data to another organisation, or to you, in some conditions.
- The right to withdraw consent. You can withdraw a consent that you gave, at any time. Open our cookies page and select the “Cookie Settings” button.
We answer a request within one month. In complex cases the law lets us take up to two more months. To use a right, contact us (see below). Our GDPR statement gives more detail.
Cookies
This website sets no cookies of its own. It keeps your colour mode and your cookie choice in your browser. See our cookies page for what is kept, why, and how to change your choice.
If you accept cookies and use the message form, Google reCAPTCHA can set a cookie.
